Record Collection: Olivia Dean

December 22, 2020

Record Collection 005.

Ok Love You Bye (EP) & What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays? (EP)

Olivia Dean the soulful queen. DEANO.

At 21, Olivia already has a bag full of happy-sad songs that’ll have you belting the lyrics in your mate’s face at a festival (post-COVID of course *sigh*) or moodily staring out the car window to those ever so relatable relationship-drama-infused lyrics.

Despite only having two EP’s out, Olivia already has quite the fanbase with 28.3k on IG & 493,401 monthly listeners on Spotify, but it’s no surprise.

Each song is as catchy as the next, but with an entirely different feel. You’ve got Baby Come Home for wining and dining ‘background vibes’, The Hardest Part, Echo and Password Change for a bit of neo-soul, Crosswords for the acoustics and catchy sing-a-longs such as Ok Love You Bye and Reason To Stay.

She’s a clear perfectionist. All of her songs feel so intricately pieced together, forming stories that are personal and pack a real punch of emotions.

I’ve already had the absolute pleasure of seeing Olivia live 4 times since her career started to take off last year and I can confidently say, this girl can really perform. Vocals that come with such ease and a top-notch band… where do I sign up for the 5th gig?

Basically, I think she’s fab. Conversational, relatable lyrics and on to a real winner debut album if her EP’s are anything to go by. So roll on 2021 for some more music by the lovely Miss Olivia Dean. I’m excited for it.

What Am I Gonna Do On Sundays? EP is out now.
